Parelheiros is a district located in the southern zone of the city of São Paulo. It is the second-largest district in the municipality in terms of territorial area, although it is sparsely populated. Most of the area is covered by environmental reserves of the Atlantic Forest.\n\nCreated in October 2013, the Kalipety Indigenous Land is inhabited by approximately 70 people. This community is part of an area that was reoccupied by the Guarani people from the Tenondé Porã Indigenous Land. The Kalipety village stands out as a reference for agroecological practices, combining traditional Guarani knowledge with alternative techniques from the non-Indigenous world. In recent years, the local Indigenous people have fought to recover some traditional ingredients of the Guarani culture, such as corn, which is a sacred food for the Guarani. Currently, the Guarani Indigenous people of the Kalipety village have managed to recover nine varieties of native corn.
