The Little Black Cormorant (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris) is a small, sleek, aquatic bird found in Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, and parts of New Zealand. It has entirely black plumage with a glossy sheen, a slender body, and a long, thin, hooked bill. These birds are excellent divers, feeding primarily on fish, which they catch by swimming underwater. They often forage in groups and are commonly seen perched with wings spread to dry after diving. They inhabit freshwater lakes, rivers, estuaries, and coastal waters.
