Known for its melodious, complex songs, it has a robust body, strong legs, and a sharp beak. Adults display bold black and white plumage, with males having pure white napes and females greyish ones. Highly intelligent and territorial, magpies are opportunistic feeders, eating insects, small animals, and seeds. During breeding season, some may swoop to protect nests.
