The Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) is a small tropical cardinalfish in the family Apogonidae.
Spiny-head Cardinalfish Ostorhinchus urostigmus occurs in the tropical Western Central Pacific, max. standard length 15cm. The peduncular spot is large in young specimens, but fades proportionally and reduces in size with age, and is often absent in adults. \nOstorhinchus urostigmus inhabits coastal reef slopes. They are nocturnal predators, feeding on small invertebrates and plankton. During the breeding season, males exhibit mouthbrooding behavior, carrying fertilized eggs in their mouths until they hatch, which takes approximately seven days. \nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°27'34.836 N 125°13'17.047 E at 8m depth by night

The Yellow Eye Cardinalfish, or Ostorhinchus moluccensis, is a small, colorful reef fish commonly found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Its bright coloration, with yellow eyes and a black bandit mask, make it a popular species in the aquarium trade. The Yellow Eye Cardinalfish is nocturnal and feeds on a variety of small organisms, including plankton and small fish. They are shoaling fish that exhibit social behavior and can be territorial. The species is an egg layer, with planktonic larvae that are important in predator-prey relationships and the food chain of coral reef ecosystems. Despite being a popular species in the aquarium trade, conservation efforts are necessary to ensure sustainable fishing practices and protect the marine biodiversity of coral reefs.

The Pajama (Pyjama) cardinalfish, Sphaeramia nematoptera, is a species of fish belonging to the Apogonidae family. Distributed throughout much of the West Pacific, from Java to Fiji, and from the Ryukyu Islands south to the Great Barrier Reef. In Pajama cardinalfish, males incubate the eggs in their mouth until they hatch.

This specimen was photographed during a night dive while standing motionless. It would have been more difficult during the day. The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific from Africa to Japan and Australia (but not in the Red Sea or the Arabian Gulf) widely around coral reefs to a maximum depth of 60 m. Pterocaesio tile grows up to a max. length of 30 cm, the common length is 20 cm. Juveniles occasionally appear in large numbers in shallow lagoons and on reef flats. This species feeds on zooplankton in midwater aggregations and is a typical Tuna baitfish. Palau, 7°4'54.456 N 134°15'43.506 E at 12m depth

Frostfin Cardinalfish Ostorhinchus hoevenii (ex. Apogon hoevenii) occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from India, Indochina and the Malay Archipelago, to northern Australia and to Japan in a depth range from 20 to 30m, max. total length 6cm. \nAdults form small schools in estuaries and sheltered bays with soft-bottom habitat. They are usually seen among sponges, crinoids, or Diadema urchins in weedy areas. It is a mouthbrooding species with distinct pairing during courtship and spawning. \nThis specimen was encountered near a Mushroom Coral Heliofungia actiniformis. This coral species has the longest coral tentacles. \nThe Mushroom Coral, Heliofungia actiniformis, is listed as 'Vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is closely related to only one other species and is found in the Indo-Pacific region, in Southeast Asia and Australia.\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia\n1°27'29.484 N 125°13'10.572 E at 17m depth
