The church of St. Peter and the square Spallanzani in Portovenere, Italy. Composite photo

San Pietro is the first historical monument seen by the visitor upon arriving to Porto Venere by boat. It looks like a castle but it is only a church dating from the 13th century. Its façade has the traditional bands of the Ligurian style of the time. The church occupies an exceptional site, perched on a cape that juts out over the Mediterranean.
