Florence, Italy - April 14, 2023: The Marzocco, the heraldic lion, symbol of the city. The original became a pile of weathered rubble. The replica by Donatello is now in Piazza della Signoria.

Medici Lions at Loggia dei Lanzi at Florence in Tuscany, Italy. These marble sculptures date to the 2nd century AD (a Roman one) and the other one is 16th century pendant. They were displayed at Villa Medici from 1576 and were subsequently (from 1789) placed on show at the open public space of Loggia dei Lanzi. Behind, in focus, is Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini at Loggia dei Lanzi on Piazza della Signoria. This sculpture which is in a public space on a town square was built between 1545-1554.
