Mallow is the common English name of Malva from the Malvaceae family.

Variable erect, medium to tall, hairy perennial, to 1.2m. Leaves with 5-7 more pointed lobes which are all pinnately-divided. Flowers bright pink, 35-60mm, solitary, at the upper leaf-axils; epicalyx segments linear to narrowly oval, hairless or slightly hairy. Mericarps with long white hairs.Habitat: Pasture and field margins, roadsides and Hedgebanks, generally on dry fertile soils, sometimes in rocky places, to 1500m.Flowering Season: July-August.Distribution: Britain, Belgium, Holland, France and Germany; naturalized in Scandinavia.The flowers have a musk-like fragrance, especially when taken indoors.

Althaea rosea (Alcea rosea), commonly called hollyhock, belongs to Malvaceae family and is considered as a biennial or short-lived perennial. It has single flowers of various colors that grow along a spike. The colors of the flower include red, dark red, pink, orange, white, purple and yellow. It blooms in summer and early fall (July-September).

Flowers generally pink or white, sometimes red, violet or yellowish, large, 60-80mm, in long leafy, slender racemes; epicalyx segments 6, triangular, shorter than the sepals.\nHabitat: Waste places, field boundaries, along walls and in rocky places.\nFlowering Season: July-September.\nDistribution: Widely naturalized from garden escapes in Britain, France and Germany.
