Rome, Italy, July 15 -- A view of the Roman Pantheon and Piazza della Rotonda in the heart of the Eternal City, with dozens of tourists and the outdoor tables of typical Italian restaurants. Built in 27 BC by the Consul Marco Vispanio Agrippa for the emperor Augustus and dedicated to all the Roman divinities, the majestic Pantheon is one of the best preserved Roman structures in the Eternal City and in the world. The fountain in the center of the square, with a real Egyptian obelisk, was built by the sculptor Leonardo Sormani in 1575 on a project by the architect Giacomo della Porta. The Pantheon or temple of all gods is a former Roman temple in Rome, Italy. It is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings, in large part because it has been in continuous use throughout its history, and since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a church dedicated to St. Mary and the Martyrs.
