Bubble Coral Shrimp or Coleman's Coral Shrimp Palaemonella philippinensis (former Vir philippinensis) occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from the Red Sea to the Philippines, to Japan and Australia in a depth range from 7-30m, max. length 2cm. The species was first described in 1984, and this is remarkably late, as the species is seen well and quite often. \nMost of the time at least half of this Shrimp with translucent extremities is hidden in his Bubblecoral Plerogyra sinuosa gaining protection among stinging tentacles.\nAs Cleaner Shrimps Bubble Coral Shrimps are waving their antennae, they signal their presence to the fish so that they can benefit from their essential cleaning service: deworming.\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°27'38.166 N 125°13'34.284 E at 14m depth

Red Fire Shrimp (Lysmata debelius)
Bubble Coral Shrimp or Coleman's Coral Shrimp Palaemonella philippinensis (former Vir philippinensis) occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from the Red Sea to the Philippines, to Japan and Australia in a depth range from 7-30m, max. length 2cm. The species was first described in 1984, and this is remarkably late, as the species is seen well and quite often. Rarely, however, do you see the whole animal from the side. Most of the time at least half is hidden in the coral. This specimen changed position and the photographer was there at the right moment. \nAs Cleaner Shrimps they are waving their antennae, they signal their presence to the fish so that they can benefit from their essential cleaning service: deworming.\nColeman's Coral Shrimp is transparent, so a blood vessel can be seen running through the back as well as all of its internal organs, even its eggs, when they are present, in the abdomen. The legs and claws, also transparent, are dotted with fine purplish blue horizontal spots at the joints, sometimes with a thin purple line at the end. The white and black stalked eyes are supplied by two small blood vessels.\nPlerogyra sinuosa can inflict a painful sting and provide protection for the organism as a whole, but Coleman's Coral Shrimps gain protection among stinging tentacles of his Bubblecoral Plerogyra sinuosa. \nTriton Bay, Westpapua, Indonesia 3°56'19.7539 S 134°7'15.1967 E at 15m depth

Modest snapping shrimp (Synalpheus modestus) three quarter front view (15 mm in size). It’s common in the West Pacific and Japan, but this one is from the Indo-Pacific and wholly matches the species description: deep red body and foreclaw with translucent head and claws displaying blue highlights. Also yellow eyes. \nUnderwater macro photography taken in Lembeh, Manado - Indonesia.

Camel Shrimp (Rhynchocinetes Durbanensis) Posing on Reef. Padangbai, Bali, Indonesia
Hingebeak Shrimp (or many other common names like Dancing Shrimp, Camel Shrimp, Hingebeak Prawn) Rhynchocinetes durbanensis is common and wide spread in tropical Indo-Pacific, max. length 4cm. \nThe reproductive morphology and mating behavior in this species is particularly interesting: There is strong sexual dimorphism in this species, in that robustus morphotypes are greater in size and with larger appendages than females. There is a dominance hierarchy, larger males are far more successful in mating than typus and intermedius morphotypes. \n\nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, Indonesia \n3°54'2.358 S 134°6'18.81 E at 12m depth by night
