Nassau grouper. blue spotted coral grouper. Epinephelus striatus
Foursaddle Grouper Epinephelus spilotoceps occurs in the tropical Indo-West-Pacific from East coast of Africa to the Line Islands. Except for its occurrence along the African coast (Zanzibar, Tanzania to Ponta Zavora, Mozambique) it seems to be primarily an insular species, occurring at most (probably all) of the islands of tropical Indian and west-central Pacific in a depth range from 0 to 30m, max. length 47cm. \n\nUsually species have a more ore less specific behaviour. Groupers are shy and have a long escape distance. This specimen was unusually curious and followed the photographer attentively for quite a while.\n\nTriton Bay, Indonesia \n3°54'2.346 S 134°6'32.099 E at 12m depth

The Puffer fish which swims happily.
The pufferfish, a fascinating marine species, is a common sight in the Red Sea, Egypt. Known for their unique defense mechanism of inflating into a balloon-like shape, these fish are a highlight for divers exploring the region's vibrant underwater world.\n\nPufferfish inhabit coral reefs, lagoons, and seagrass beds, blending seamlessly with their surroundings thanks to their camouflaged patterns. Species like the masked puffer (Arothron diadematus) are often spotted in the Red Sea, distinguished by their pale bodies and dark facial markings. These fish are generally slow swimmers, relying on their ability to puff up when threatened to deter predators. Their bodies also contain tetrodotoxin, a potent chemical that makes them highly toxic if consumed.\n\nDivers and snorkelers can observe pufferfish feeding on algae, crustaceans, and invertebrates, using their strong, beak-like teeth to break through hard shells. Despite their toxic nature, pufferfish are curious and approachable, offering excellent opportunities for underwater photography.\n\nThe Red Sea’s clear waters and diverse ecosystems provide an ideal habitat for pufferfish, highlighting the region's rich marine biodiversity. As with all marine life, respecting their space and preserving their environment is crucial. Observing these remarkable creatures in their natural habitat serves as a reminder of the intricate and delicate balance that sustains life beneath the waves.

Wolfsnout Goby Luposicya lupus occurs in the Indo-West Pacific from Pinda in Mozambique to Indonesia, north to Japan and south/east to Tonga in a depth range from 0-15m, max. length 3.5cm. The species inhabits large sponges, usually on the underside of floppy or fan types that grow on shallow reef flats and down on slopes that are subject to moderate currents. \nThis specimen was encountered even a bit deeper than the usual max. depth at 17m. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°54'59.5859 S 134°6'6.4748 E at 17m depth

This specimen was photographed during a night dive while standing motionless. It would have been more difficult during the day. The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific from Africa to Japan and Australia (but not in the Red Sea or the Arabian Gulf) widely around coral reefs to a maximum depth of 60 m. Pterocaesio tile grows up to a max. length of 30 cm, the common length is 20 cm. Juveniles occasionally appear in large numbers in shallow lagoons and on reef flats. This species feeds on zooplankton in midwater aggregations and is a typical Tuna baitfish. Palau, 7°4'54.456 N 134°15'43.506 E at 12m depth
